About Me
I grew up in Southeastern Massachusetts and began my animal science studies while attending Bristol County Agricultural High School. After high school, my interest in horses led me to attend the Stockbridge School of Agriculture Equine Studies Program, where I gained a solid foundation in general horsemanship. I attended the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where I completed the pre-veterinary curriculum through the Animal Science department and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2001. During my undergraduate studies, I became involved in various research projects; I later completed an M.S. degree in 2002. I went on to earn my DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree from Colorado State University. Because of my interest in research, I was chosen to participate in the Merial Veterinary Scholars Program while attending Colorado State.
Prior to to my academic career at Becker College and UMass-Amherst, I worked in a multi-doctor small animal practice in Massachusetts. Before returning to Massachusetts, I spent nearly seven years practicing in a busy mixed-animal practice in Virginia, where I was a member of the team that provided veterinary care to the world-famous Chincoteague Ponies located on the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.
I’ve had a passion for veterinary medicine for as long as I can remember and have developed an equal passion for teaching. My current appointment as a full-time faculty member at UMass-Amherst provides me the opportunity to seamlessly blend these two career interests. I enjoy working with students, fostering a positive learning environment and advising them in the many opportunities offered in the field of veterinary and animal science.
